How to Use Your Current Smartphone with UNIVERSAL Mobile

Modified on Thu, Sep 17 at 1:25 PM

To use your existing smartphone with UNIVERSAL Mobile, your device must meet both of the following requirements: ① the device must support the required frequencies, and ② the device must be SIM-unlocked (or have the SIM lock removed).

1. Your device must be SIM-free or SIM-unlocked

How to check whether your smartphone is SIM-unlocked

〈 iPhone 〉

Go to “Settings” → “General” → “About” → scroll down to “Carrier Lock.” If it says “No SIM restrictions,” your iPhone is SIM-unlocked.

〈 Android 〉

Go to “Settings” → “About phone” → “SIM card status.” If the status shows “Allowed,” your device is SIM-unlocked.

※The menu names and display may vary depending on your smartphone model and software version.

2. Your device must support the required frequencies

Apple iPhones from iPhone 6 and later are compatible with the required frequencies.

For Android devices, please make sure your device supports VoLTE as well as Band 2 and Band 4.

〈Frequency / Band〉

4G / LTE Bands

Band 2 (1900 MHz)

Band 5 (850 MHz)

Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz)

Band 12 (700 MHz)

Band 66 (Extension of Band 4 on 1700/2100 MHz)

Band 71 (600 MHz)

5G Bands

Band n71 (600 MHz)

Band n41 (2.5 GHz)

Band n260 (39 GHz)

Band n261 (28 GHz)

※The more supported frequency bands your device has, the more coverage areas it can access.

※Even if your device supports the frequencies listed above, it cannot be used if it does not support VoLTE.

Note 1) If you plan to continue using a smartphone purchased from another carrier, please make sure in advance that the SIM unlock process has been completed.

Note 2) Many smartphones manufactured by Japanese electronics companies, including SONY and SHARP, may not support the frequency bands used in the United States. Please check compatibility before using your device.

※Please note that UNIVERSAL Mobile cannot be held responsible for malfunctions or other issues with devices not purchased from us.

※Please note that refunds are not available if you are unable to use the service due to compatibility issues with your smartphone, including supported frequency bands.

If you are unsure whether your smartphone is compatible, please provide the 15-digit IMEI number of your smartphone to the customer support team below.

You can display your IMEI number by dialing [ *#06# ] on your smartphone.
